| Our Congregation |
The
atmosphere in the Johanneskirche is rather intimate - like in a big
family. Our most important event is the Sunday worship service. For
English speaking foreigners we offer a simultaneous translation every
Sunday. Babies together with their parents can view the church hall
directly from a soundproof room and follow the service via
loudspeakers. Hence they can participate and closely experience
community. Many members help arranging the worship service with their
contributions. After the worship service we usually meet for a cup of
coffee or tea at the WesleyCafé. During
the week, too, there are many offerings. Apart from the congregational
bible school where all age groups meet there are groups for every age
and for every subject (see "Events"). Especially happy we are about our
three choires: the church choir and the gospel choir and the "mice
choir" (children from 3 – 6). Because the regional area of
our congregation is rather large (a radius of approx. 50km) we try to
offer services in the remote towns and villages through house circles
(see "Events"). Should your location not be contained in one of the
lists yet then contact us; maybe others wait at exactly that location
that we start with a house circle there!
Originating from a former Expo-Project of our church you find the WesleyCafé at the groundfloor of our church building which was refurbished for the year 2000 to become a bistro. Nearly once a month we invite there for an interesting subject with a guest speaker (see "WesleyCafé"). Some other groups are guests in our church such as the
German students mission (Studenten-Mission Deutschland) with their
activities for students and pupils, the biblical-therapeutical pastoral
care (Biblisch-Therapeutische Seelsorge) and the "Black Cross" an
organisation taking care of convicts. They all provide a lot of
contributions to the variety of the Johanneskirche which is of
considerable value to us. |
| Our United Methodist Church, UMC (Evangelisch-methodistische Kirche, EmK) |
|
"Evangelisch (evangelical)" means: In her conviction the
EmK is based on the fundaments of the reformation and does not follow
any other doctrines. Important to us is the common conviction: "We
believe in Jesus Christ." Lively faith and credible practise are
reflected by many activities of our congregations. There is a close
cooperation across national boarders especially in the social and
humanitarian areas. Within the ecumenical movement, the association of
Christian churches (Arbeitsgemeinschaft christlicher Kirchen, AcK) and
the Evangelical Alliance (Evangelische Allianz) the EmK cooperates with
other churches. With the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in
Germany(Evangelische Kirche Deutschlands, Landeskirche) there is a
communion with respect to the pulpits and the Lord's Last Supper
(Kanzel- und Abendmahlsgemeinschaft). This demonstrates: It is the
faith and the relationship to Jesus which our churches have in common
even though they may have different profiles. |
